It didn’t look like that in the design!!
November 7th, 2008 by davidwrightI find it amazing how people don’t realize that certain fonts aren’t web based. Of course since the design comes from a web designer (actually a graphic designer who thinks he can design for the web) there are all these crazy fonts. So I think to myself okay, we can have images all over the place or make it SEO friendly and make it all text. Personally I prefer to make anything that can be text hard coded into the HTML. But certain times you can’t do that. So I’ll code everything and try to accommodate for the crazy fonts the designer had for a web based font (usually i go with verdana if they had some off the wall font). Once I show it to the project manager they go, wait “It didn’t look like that in the design.” And I’ll plead my case saying well it’s not a web based font so we can’t get it to look like that, plus it needs to be SEO friendly. Their response is usually “wait, web based font huh, I thought all the fonts in photoshop were web-based.” At this point I want to pull my hair out and then I’ll explain my reasoning behind what I did. Usually I end up winning in the end, but not after about an hour of arguing with the project manager and the graphic designer. Whyyi do people not know this!
